"This
cemetery is located on Pea Ridge Road south from exit 170 on Highway
US-74 west of Rutherfordton, NC. I started the survey in the
northwest corner on March 9, 2000 and was almost through when I was
approached by a female member of the church. She asked and I
explained what I was doing. It was suggested that I should get
permission to do such and I said that it was not a problem for me to
just leave. She allowed that would be fine. This is the first time,
after doing hundreds of surveys, that I have been more or less asked
to leave. I make the surveys available to everyone by placing them
on the Internet. I only spend my time and my money doing this and
really enjoy the help that it gives others. It seems that with
anything, the few tend to make it miserable for the many. So in
closing this survey, to the African-Americans of Polk County, NC, I
will say, if you would like to have your cemetery surveyed and added
to the rest, it will be up to someone to contact me and ask me to do
the survey and then I will consider it." --W. D. Floyd |
